High definition surveying (HDS) makes it possible for surveyors to capture existing conditions of structures and formations with a degree of accuracy and completeness not formerly achievable—and to do so quickly and safely. Midwestern Consulting was one of the first companies in Michigan to offer HDS surveying and has used the technology around the country to give clients a real advantage in their designs and renovations.
HDS uses laser technology to efficiently collect an enormous number of measurements from surfaces enabling us to scan complex, dangerous, and hard to access environments with extreme accuracy and completeness. From historic preservation to high definition as-builts to utility infrastructure renovation, we provide efficient, economical solutions to otherwise challenging real world issues.
Collaborating with our clients, we assess their objectives to determine a deliverable solution that best fits their overall needs: Scalable tif images, 2D CAD drawings, 3D TruView images, 3D Wire frames, and 3D Existing Conditions Models. These deliverables can be integrated into industry standard design programs, including AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, Autodesk Navisworks and other BIM software.
Benefits of HDS include:
- Creates a 3D model with a 360° field of view allowing visualization from any angle
- Safely captures intricate details in hard to access areas
- Data is compatible with AutoCAD and Microstation and can be imported into Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
- Tunnels, bridges, building corridors, and other populated or hazardous areas can be surveyed with minimal disruption
Midwestern Consulting has used Laser Scanning technology to help clients with diverse applications, including:
- Designing additions that tie in to existing buildings
- Fabricating new parts for historic structures
- Planning and facilitating infrastructure renovations
- Measuring material volumes at landfills, gravel pits, and construction sites
- Providing layout control for installing complex structural component
